New resource: British Cartoon Archive
The British Cartoon Archive is the single most important archive of British newspaper cartoons, and a key resource for British political and social history that has now been digitised and made available to staff, students and researchers at colleges and universities in the UK.
The archive now offers free and easy access to more than 170,000 cartoons by over 350 cartoonists, dating from 1790 to 2011 and featuring Prime Ministers from Pitt the Younger to David Cameron. It also includes a collection of rare seaside postcards from the 1950s.
You can access the British Cartoon Archive from the L&IS website via the Find Databases section of the Search It page.
Registration is required to create a collection of favourite cartoons which will be visible everytime you login. To use an image for 'non-commercial educational context in the UK' select Teesside University from the list of institutions and agree to the terms and conditions, you will then be prompted with a Shibboleth login screen, insert your ICT username and password.
