How do I get a Library card?
The card that you use to borrow books is called a Teesside University Smart Card (TUSC). You also use this to print or photocopy and for access to some University buildings.
If you did not get a TUSC when you registered, then you can collect it from the IT help desk in your School.

How do I borrow books?
You borrow books by using the self-service machines on the ground floor. You will need your TUSC and your PIN (Personal Identification Number). If you do not have a PIN you can set up your own at: https://myaccess.tees.ac.uk
How many books can I borrow?
You can borrow up to 21 books at one time (18 Standard and Weekly loans plus 3 high demand loans). There is no charge to borrow books but if they are returned late you will have to pay a fine. View the rates.
How long can I keep the books I borrow?
Books can be borrowed for up to 4 weeks - these are called 'Standard' loans and have a white label in the front of the book, or for a week - these are called 'Weekly' loans and have a yellow label in the front of the book.
Some books cannot be borrowed and are for reference only - these have a red sticker on the cover of the book.

How do I find out which books are in the Library?
The Catalogue lists all the books, journals, videos and DVDs that are in the Library. The Catalogue can be searched from the Library website. There are also Catalogue machines on each floor of the Library.
How do I return my books when I bring them back to the Library?
You use the same self-service machines on the ground floor of the Library that you used to borrow the books.
How can I renew books (borrow books for longer)?
As long as someone else has not reserved the book you want to keep you can renew it. There are 3 ways to renew books:
- Use the self-service machines - you will have to bring the book and your TUSC to the Library
- Online via the Library Catalogue -select the 'My Account' option. See the following information on how to do this
Factsheet on renewing books (pdf - 143kb) - Telephone the Library on 01642 342100
What happens if I return my books late to the Library?
You will have to pay a fine if you do not return your books on time. There are different rates of fines. You can avoid paying fines by renewing your books

How do I print or photocopy?
Throughout the University there are self-service 'MyPrint' machines, several of which are in the Library. You can use these machines to print, photocopy or scan. Prices vary depending upon the service you are using. (printing/photocopying prices)
The MyPrint machines are operated using your TUSC. Money has to be credited to your TUSC. This can be done either online via the Online Shop for Teesside University or by using the MyPrint creditors which are located throughout the University (there are 3 in the Library).
